Ripple CEO Says Legal Dispute With YouTube Over XRP Scams Now Resolved
Youtube is said to have settled a court case brought by Ripple that alleged the video platform failed to enforce its own policies and allowed fake accounts to impersonate the blockchain payments company and its CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
In a series of tweets Tuesday, Garlinghouse said the companies have now opted to “work together” with YouTube to “prevent, detect and take down these scams.”
In April, Ripple sued the video streaming giant for failing to effectively police against scams involving the cryptocurrency XRP (-1.91%), resulting in monetary damage to users and reputational harm to Ripple. The lawsuit focused on the “XRP Giveaway” frauds, which aim to trick victims into believing that if they send some amount of XRP they will receive a greater amount in return.

Can Decentralized Stablecoins Stabilize?
Decentralized finance (DeFi) idealists want to create perfectly free financial ecosystems that can’t be subverted by governments, corporations or regulators. They also want their decentralized nirvana to be equipped with stablecoins so users can be protected from price craziness. Therein lies the contradiction. J.P. Koning, a CoinDesk columnist, worked as an equity researcher at a Canadian brokerage firm and a financial writer at a large Canadian bank. He runs the popular Moneyness blog. Are decentralized anarchic systems, those that have no link to existing centralized institutions, capable of creating stability?…

This week, you could be forgiven for thinking bitcoin has ceded ground at the epicenter of the crypto zeitgeist to non-fungible tokens (NFT). Another Beeple art piece sold for $6 million to raise funds for the Open Earth Foundation’s efforts to fight climate change, and both The New York Times and Time Magazine announced sales of their own NFTs. It’s also true that bitcoin continues to attract attention in financial troubled…
